1. Introduction
The following protocol deals with the evaluation of the safety assistance field, particularly lane assist systems and automatic emergency braking systems.
2. Evaluation method
Unlike evaluating the protection that passive safety provides in the event of a crash, the evaluation of Safety Assist collision avoidance does not require destructive testing of the vehicle.The evaluation of the Safety Assisted Collision Avoidance function is based on Euro-NCAP validated performance requirements.The aim is to, where possible, combine the good functionality of these systems to promote standard products for all cars sold in the European Community.
It is important to note that Euro-NCAP only considers the assessment of installation requirements for compliance with essential safety equipment or dual-rated safety aids (as specified in the vehicle specification, selection, testing and retesting protocol).In addition to the basic Euro-NCAP assessment, additional information may be recorded that may be added to the Euro-NCAP assessment in the future.
3. AEB vehicle-to-vehicle system evaluation
3.1 Introduction
For the evaluation of the AEB vehicle-to-vehicle system, three aspects should be considered: the automatic emergency braking function, the forward collision warning function and the human-machine interface (HMI).The FCW function is only considered if the system provides dynamic brake assist.
