Hi, my name is Wei Xiong, from openEuler, and I am a member of the openEuler Technical Committee.
openEuler, as a full-scenario ICT operating system platform, has grown very large.For such a large community, how to organize the community is a topic worthy of discussion.Today we will discuss this issue.
So far, openEuler has organized the community with the SIG group as the basic organizational unit.
The organizational form of the SIG group actually divides the community into different functional modules, and organizes personnel according to the functional modules.There are two methods for this division: The first method is that we divide horizontally.Horizontal division is to organize the software stack from bottom to top in the form of SIGs at different levels.Another mode is vertical division.It is to organize the SIG group from top to bottom in the way of solutions.Vertical and horizontal cross, from the perspective of technical dimension, it is full technical coverage, so that no technical points are missed.At the same time, this vertical and horizontal cross also makes there a good relationship between different SIGs, so that a good synergistic relationship can be formed between SIGs and SIGs.
In the SIG, we have a special Release SIG to coordinate the joint development and evolution, and to release this major version together.
After listening to this form of organization, you will find that it is actually more suitable for a community dominated by enterprises. At the same time, the output of the community must have commercial goals, and its released version is intended for commercial applications.At this time, the requirements for quality and timeliness are relatively strong, so it is more suitable for community organizations.Of course, the SIG-based organizational form of community organizations may have its advantages, but it also has its disadvantages and disadvantages. The disadvantage is that it is not so friendly to individual enthusiasts.
In the future development of openEuler, we may further evolve the entire technical community, including the organizational form. Combining the advantages of SIG, it can also be further developed, making it easier for individual enthusiasts to integrate into our community.in development.Therefore, the future openEuler community will be a SIG-based community, supplemented by new organizational forms and infrastructure, allowing individual enthusiasts to join the community developer model more freely and flexibly.

The organizational form we are talking about today is the organizational form that openEuler has explored and evolved over the past two to three years.How to conduct community organization is actually a very big topic, and it is also an enduring topic. It is also a very core issue for each community to develop in a long-term and stable manner.
