Biotin azide is a derivative of biotin (vitamin H) covalently bound to an azide group.This reagent allows labeling of various alkynylated molecules such as DNA, oligonucleotides and proteins with biotin.Biotin conjugated to avidin or streptavidin can be used in downstream affinity applications to isolate biotinylated molecules or their binding to streptavidin conjugates.
This structure of biotin azide has a long hydrophilic linker that separates the biotin residue from the target molecule for efficient binding to streptavidin.Its linker (PEG) also enhances water solubility to facilitate binding.Using our recommended protocol, azides can bind to a variety of molecules.
