Transferrin, also known as transferrin (TRF, Tf), is responsible for transporting iron absorbed by the digestive tract and iron released by the degradation of red blood cells.Enter the bone marrow in the form of ferric iron complex (Tf-Fe3+) for the production of mature red blood cells.Transferrin mainly exists in the plasma, and the transferrin in the plasma supplies the iron of most of the tissues of the body, and in the parts that cannot be reached, the transferrin synthesized by these tissues produces transferrin locally.
Human Transferrin is mainly synthesized in the liver and is a single-chain glycoprotein composed of two lobes (Lobe) located at the homologous N-terminal and C-terminal.Human transferrin contains a total of 678 amino acid residues with an isoelectric point of 5.9 and a molecular weight of 76kD.Each molecule of transferrin can carry two ferric ions (Fe3+).The interaction between transferrin and Fe3+ depends on pH. When the pH is 7.4, transferrin and Fe3+ are efficiently combined, and the two are separated at acidic pH.
